96 servers off on-premises Veeam — $75,000 saved every year.
A multi-site Australian enterprise replaced its ageing on-premises Veeam deployment with Backup Experts, cutting $75,000 per year in licensing costs while moving every copy into immutable Australian datacenter storage.

The challenge
The Australian customer ran 96 production servers protected by on-premises Veeam. Per-instance licensing renewals, ageing backup hardware, and a manual tape rotation were consuming both budget and engineering hours.
Their auditors also wanted proof that backup copies could not be altered or deleted, and that data remained onshore in Australia.
The outcome
- $75,000 annual saving on Veeam licensing
- All 96 servers protected with daily immutable snapshots
- Primary and replica copies held in Australian datacenters
- Automated restore verification every two weeks
- Backup hardware and tape handling retired entirely
How the migration ran
- 1
Discovery
We audited the existing on-premises Veeam estate — 96 Windows and Linux servers across two sites — and mapped retention, RPO, and audit obligations before touching a thing.
- 2
Agent rollout
Onboarding was simple: install the agent on each machine. Deployment was pushed in waves by application tier so production workloads were never in flight at the same time.
- 3
Seed, replicate, and verify
Initial seed backups completed to Australian datacenters, then copied automatically to a separate immutable storage array with object-lock policies applied. Automated restore verification runs every two weeks to prove backups are recoverable.
- 4
Validate and decommission
Test restores were validated with the customer's own IT team, after which the legacy Veeam licensing, backup servers, and tape handling were retired.
